This website is the online center for public information and involvement in the Supplemental Environmental Impact Statement (SEIS) for the West Valley Site (DOE/EIS-0226-S1) (SEIS for the West Valley Site).
The U.S. Department of Energy’s (DOE’s) Office of Environmental Management and the New York State Energy Research and Development Authority (NYSERDA) are jointly preparing this SEIS for Phase 2 decommissioning decisionmaking for the West Valley Site. Phase 2 includes the facilities and areas remaining at the West Valley Site after completion of Phase 1 decommissioning. This SEIS evaluates potential alternatives for these facilities and areas. This website is the online center for public information and involvement in the SEIS process.
DOE and NYSERDA Announce the Availability of the Notice of Intent to Prepare the Supplemental Environmental Impact Statement for the West Valley Site (DOE/EIS-0226/S1) and Draft Scope (Notice of Intent and Draft Scope).
- Notice of Intent in the Federal Register
- NYSERDA’s notice in the New York State Department of Environmental Conservation’s Environmental Notice Bulletin
The publication of these notices starts a public scoping period ending April 23, 2018. In the Notice of Intent and Draft Scope, DOE and NYSERDA invite public comments on the scope of the SEIS. The Notice of Intent and Draft Scope describe the background of the site, the purpose of the SEIS, and a preliminary description of the potential alternatives and issues to be considered. It also describes the scoping process, including dates and methods for submitting scoping comments and also the dates and locations for the public scoping meetings taking place in March 2018 in New York.
